Leopoldo Miguez

Composer, violinist and Brazilian conductor, author of the Hino da Proclamação da República. He was the first director of the Instituto Nacional de Música (current Escola de Música da UFRJ). Among this work, the following symphonic poems deserve to be highlighted: Parisina, Ave, Liberta! and Prometeu, the opera Os saldunes (Coelho Neto lyrics) and Sinfonia em si bemol.
